FM-200 Clean Agent Fire Suppression

FM-200 (chemically known as HFC-227ea / 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-Heptafluoropropane) is the world's most widely deployed clean agent suppression system. It extinguishes Class A, B, and C fires by absorbing heat from the flame — removing the energy necessary to sustain combustion — without reducing oxygen to unsafe levels. FM-200 is electrically non-conductive and non-corrosive, leaves no oily residue or deposits, and the protected space requires only natural ventilation to clear the agent after discharge. The small quantity of agent required means compact cylinder storage footprints suitable for most equipment rooms.

Novec 1230 (FK-5-1-12)

Novec 1230 — Next-Generation Clean Agent

Novec 1230 fluid (FK-5-1-12, a fluoroketone compound) is the preferred modern clean agent for new installations where environmental profile and suppression speed are priorities. It is stored as a liquid at room temperature and discharges as a gas, providing full suppression in approximately 5–10 seconds. Novec 1230 has near-zero Global Warming Potential (GWP of 1, compared to FM-200's GWP of 3,220) and an atmospheric lifetime of only 5 days — making it the environmentally responsible choice and increasingly preferred by FM Global insurers. Use concentration is approximately 5.3–5.6% by volume of the protected space.

CO₂ Systems

CO₂ High & Low Pressure Suppression

Carbon dioxide systems are effective for unoccupied industrial hazards where total flooding or local application is required. CO₂ extinguishes fire by displacing oxygen and providing a cooling effect. High-pressure CO₂ uses individual cylinders; low-pressure systems use a refrigerated bulk storage vessel. Applications include engine rooms, generator bays, printing machinery, and industrial paint booths. Pre-discharge alarms and time delays are mandatory. CO₂ systems must not be used in normally occupied spaces without strict lockout procedures.

Suppression Control Panels

Kentec Electronics suppression control panels provide the interface between detection and agent release, with sophisticated abort, hold, and delay functions that protect against inadvertent discharge in occupied spaces. Panels include pre-discharge alarm outputs, manual abort stations, visual and audible warnings, and full event logging. Integration with fire alarm panels allows coordinated building response — HVAC shutdown, door release, and damper closure — prior to agent discharge to maintain room integrity.
